Silver Shield Report #10- Attaining Your Highest and Best Self

Are you protecting your flame?

What is the process we must go through after we have gone through the 5 Stages of The Awakening to become our highest and best self?  My good friend and contributor on the Dont-Tread-On.Me blog spend some time delving deeply into this subject in this Silver Shield Report.  This is not the most comfortable conversation, but one that I feel is tremendously important to start talking about.  Be prepared for some deep thought and to question everything.

Here is an email exchange regarding the Report.

Hello Chris ,

How are you my friend?

Since you wanted some feedback I sent you a brief email. I also had a couple of questions

But let me first Thank You for having the courage to talk about religion.

I heard you say in the clip that ‘You can’t even call yourself Catholic anymore” because of things like the sexual abuse scandals and some of the experiences you may have had with your parents or other religious authorities insinuating that they are trying to control our thoughts and actions.

I just have these two pieces of feedback:

1) Those scandals do not reflect the teachings of the Catholic Church and many of the accusations may be false.  Three friends of mine were alter boys in the late 80’s and in 2001 decided to make up stories about a priest that sexually abused them when they were kids . The Archdiocese settled out of court for 250,000 , 210,000 , and 125,000. My buddies thought it was a real clever scam and were laughing all the way to the bank.

I’m sure you already know there are bad apples in every field and it does not exclude priests , nuns , doctors , parents , police , etc. (Would you stop seeing doctors if you were sick if you heard of sexual abuse taking place? Would you stop calling police if there was an emergency if you heard of police brutality taking place somewhere?)

2) The experience you have had growing up as a Catholic may have been controlling , intimidating , and sometimes even fearful and those that delivered that message to you probably did not do so accurately and/or in the correct manner. Some not even qualified to even do so.

I don’t believe that someone should change or abandon Religion because of some of the bad people they have encountered or some of the emotional struggles they have with it.

I would also like to ask what Religion you are today? I heard you mention that your kids are going to a Greek Orthodox school. Are you now Greek Orthodox or is that just being in the same ‘Paradigm’ to you?

Thank You for your Time and I apologize if I am getting too personal , but I am very interested in you as an individual and assure you there will never be any discrimination from me towards you or your family no matter how you respond.

Thanks Again Chris!

Thank you for the vote of confidence.

It is a touchy subject and one that I do not speak from any authority.

I do not consider my self Catholic or any other formalized religion not simply because of the abuse scandal but because I do not believe any man or institution has a special insight into the unknowable.

The teachings of Jesus resonate with me more deeply than anything else and that I feel is closer to the truth of life, but who knows.

I am not abandoning my spiritual connection only seeking it outside any man made dogma designed to control me.

Yet I am sending my children into a Catholic school…

I appreciate you writing about this in a sensitive way.

Thanks for the quick reply Chris.

I went to a Catholic school as well and feel very fortunate that I did. I was the biggest trouble maker all 9 years there except for one . This kid in 5th grade ‘Richard’ beat me that year haha. But anyway , I never felt controlled my whole time there . You know why?  because they couldn’t , I did what I wanted even as a kid because it is impossible for any Priest , teacher , or parent to monitor me 24/7. Sure there were rules , there always has to be some set of rules.

I lost all touch with God after high school and throughout my twenties because “it was party time” and lived pretty recklessly until about the age of 28 and I am lucky I am still in one piece today. EVERY aspect of my life has improved since.

I re-connected with Jesus and his teachings and adjusted some of my thoughts and actions ,not because someone told me to, or they thought that’s what I should do ,but because my life was spiraling downward and making no progress as a human being at all, so I had to dig deep into my roots.

I started going back to Church a few years ago and I still don’t think they can control me or my thoughts . They simply can’t.

I don’t even think “they”(Catholic Authorities) have any genuine interest to do so. I mean do you really think they set the whole thing up to try and brainwash us so that the head Pastor can have a brand new Cadillac and go on exotic vacations to the Bahamas? Other than money (or ego I guess) I do not see why they would heavily concern themselves with what we do in our personal lives. Some may call it “control” I like to call it free knowledge and guidance . I am the only one who controls the actions.

Jesus started the first Catholic church (it is not a man-made institution) and sure ‘man’ made some changes but that should not be ones focus. The focus should be ” I believe in Jesus and what he says and I will go to church to praise Him and listen to His words.”

This may be “unprovable” but that’s where faith comes in. Just like when we don’t believe in ourselves sometimes. When people ask me “what makes you so happy all the time?”  I simply say “Faith in God and Faith in myself.” That is really all you need.

I am usually uncomfortable talking about Religion and rarely do for probably the same reasons as you, but I see that you are very receptive and that kind of open-mindedness is what makes you 1-of-a-kind and is truly appreciated on my end. In return, I hope I can demonstrate that same kind of receptiveness towards you that you have towards others.

Once Again Thank You for your Time.

Sincerely ,

Merry Christmas.  We had a great morning with just the kids.

You are a true rebel.  Most kids and adults never realize the fact that no CAN control you, ever. (Unless you are in a prison, even then you can mentally check out.)

I realized this very early that my interests and will to accomplish those interests over ride anyone else’s ability to stop me.

Having kids allowed me to become more intro spectate and ask the why and not how as much.  I realize that the highest for of freedom is spiritual freedom and is one that I am sure I will keep moving towards.

One thing that is a non starter is any particular religion and certainly not any centralized approach.

I feel that the Catholic church like most other organizations has a mass of people operating it in the best of intentions, just like the military.  But like any centralized power the more “ambitions” and cunning naturally rise to the top as they seek greater power.

It is not that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely…

It is the corrupt that seek power.

The truly holy man does not seek authority or power and realizes that they cannot and should not change others around them.

Jesus’s ministry was not a formalized church with rituals and power structures and yet that is what the churches of the world do.

The Catholic Church like all other religions have lost power and no longer have or seek to control people like they did in the past. I feel it is from them overstepping their power and people simply checked out and realized that they are fine without them. The next “religion” to go through this is the secular religion of government, science, corporations, and militaries.

The whole point of the conversation was to get ahead of the curve and see what is next in human consciousness, after this belief system collapses.

Do you mind if I add this exchange to the members only post?

Hey there Chris.

Thank You once again for the reply , especially on a busy day like Christmas. I hope you and your family enjoyed yourselves.

I don’t quite understand what you mean by Churches losing power , they are definitely losing people if that is what you mean. (It’s simply a matter of choice for individuals .) I feel like society as a whole is losing their morals and values altogether. I can’t speak for other countries but it is happening here and it’s breaking my heart.

I’m not sure if it’s media, economic pressures, federal laws regarding marriage and your children, new drugs , the list goes on. One thing for certain though , society is changing big time. You gave very good examples in some of your modules.

And yes people are losing their religion which leads to the abandonment of values and morals. Everyone is looking for convenience nowadays and humans are very good at convincing themselves that this or that is ok . We look to justify bad behaviors, thoughts and habits . Maybe we did get too spoiled as a nation , I don’t know . I can’t really put my finger on it and where we started regressing.

We are about the same age and I’m sure you remember being a young kid in the 80’s and how things were then. It was not too long ago and it seems to me then and now are worlds apart.

My parents are 73(Mom) and 79(Dad) (married 56 years) I have 2 brothers ages 54 and 52 and 1 sister who is 55 . They came to America from Europe in 1965. I was born here and they all share great stories with me . My brothers and sister tell me about the 70’s and my parents tell me about their old traditions.

Anyway , I thought I would give a little background on myself and how I feel about some of these issues . When I watched your modules there was a lot I agreed with but never was able to express “My thoughts and feelings of the world today” like you. But thanks to a lot of your material I am able to have more clarity to what is going on around me. I will be forever thankful.

As to your question about sharing our conversations with all the members , please do.

Talk to you later my friend.

The major churches have fewer and fewer people and parishes.

The only ones growing are the feel good ones like Joel Osteen.

When the Catholic church support UFO’s and Global Central Banks they have lost their way.

People are looking for a more selfish justifications and are either abandoning churches or grasping on to The Secret.

I am only 37 and came into the church after Vatican II It was a feeble attempt to meet the times.

I feel that another consciousness is coming as we mature in our development.

After times of great loss societies become very religious in search of understanding what evil has happened to them.

What is religion than a way to explain suffering?

This time instead of saying we should turn the other cheek we should point the finger at the psychopaths that have created the evil and say enough.

I say this over and over again ‘ There are only two kinds of people in the world; those that want to be left alone and those that won’t leave you alone.’  Instead of letting these men go to ruin the next generation we can stop and say wow look at  all of the damage that has happened, this is how they did it and we will shun those that created this mess and reject the consciousness that enabled it.

My hope is that efforts like TGTNT and SOLA give people the background and encouragement to step up and end this way of life.

I may not have the answers but I will keep asking the questions.

Something that one is uncomfortable talking about is something that must be talked about.

  • AgainstTheGrain

Read the books Many Lives, Many masters The Four Agreements and The Science of Spirituality. Those will change your whole outlook on life.

  • AgainstTheGrain

Also read the bible, Jesus’ words have much wisdom. You do not need to believe in god to understand, they have a much deeper meaning.

  • Mustafa Cohen

Finally listened through the whole thing. The conversation is an illustration to itself: the conversation has taken place, because it had to. You can’t control the results, now come what may.

“Never think that you are the cause of the results of your actions” – somebody other than me.

  • Gareth

Aye, religion is a personal thing and shouldn’t be controlled by a hierarchical group of priests. It’s also difficult to put into words but you two made a good attempt. Interesting chat.

I like the first part of this prayer:

    God grant me the serenity
    to accept the things I cannot change;
    courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Thank you, Chris for this report.

The year is 2011, soon it will be 2012. That is 2011 years since the birth of Christ. You speek of religions, Jesus speaks of relationship with Him.

“A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic – on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg – or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God; or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.” C.S. Lewis

Question: “Does everyone have a “God-shaped hole”?”

Answer: The “God-shaped hole” concept states that every person has a void in his soul/spirit/life that can only be filled by God. The “God-shaped hole” is the innate longing of the human heart for something outside itself, something transcendent, something “other.” Ecclesiastes 3:11 refers to God’s placing of “eternity in man’s heart.” God made humanity for His eternal purpose, and only God can fulfill our desire for eternity. All religion is based on the innate desire to “connect” with God. This desire can only be fulfilled by God, and therefore can be likened to a “God-shaped hole.”

The problem, though, is that humanity ignores this hole or attempts to fill it with things other than God. Jeremiah 17:9 describes the condition of our hearts: “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” Solomon reiterates the same concept: “The hearts of men, moreover, are full of evil and there is madness in their hearts while they live…” (Ecclesiastes 9:3). The New Testament concurs: “The sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so” (Romans 8:7). Romans 1:18-22 describes humanity ignoring what can be known about God, including presumably the “God-shaped hole,” and instead worshipping anything and everything other than God.

Sadly, too many spend their lives looking for something other than God to fill their longing for meaning—business, family, sports, etc. But in pursuing these things that are not eternal, they remain unfulfilled and wonder why their lives never seem satisfactory. There is no doubt that many people pursuing things other than God achieve a measure of “happiness” for a time. But when we consider Solomon, who had all the riches, success, esteem, and power in the world—in short, all that men seek after in this life—we see that none of it fulfilled the longing for eternity. He declared it all “vanity,” meaning that he sought after these things in vain because they did not satisfy. In the end he said, “Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole [duty] of man” (Ecclesiastes 12:13).

Just as a square peg cannot fill a round hole, neither can the “God-shaped hole” inside each of us be filled by anyone or anything other than God. Only through a personal relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ can the “God-shaped hole” be filled and the desire for eternity fulfilled.

    Merry Christmas

    Dear Chris,

I found Silver Shield Report #10 to be very interesting and fascinating. When two truth seekers come together and question what is the cause of all things, answers shall be forthcoming to those who seek. I believe that truth is truth no matter what I believe. I believe to know the truth you must live the truth that you know. I am 70 years old and I have been a truth seeker all my life.

My first religious experience and what caused me to become a seeker of truth was when I was 5 or 6 years old and I was walking home from a Presbyterian Church with a friend. My Grandparents had sent me to the Church’s Sunday School. At Sunday School I was given a Children’s Bible. My friend told me not to set the Bible on the ground because God would strike me dead. Naturally the first thing I did was to set the Bible on the ground to see if God would strike me dead. The first truth I learned was that God was not going to strike me dead if a put that Bible on the ground.

What was the truth about other things? Was I a sinner or was I a child of God? Was the birth of Jesus a virgin birth? Was God a God of Love or vengeful? Was there a hell or not? Did God cause Jesus to be nailed to a cross as a sacrifice for our sins? As I grow to maturity I had more questions: How and when did life begin on this planet? Does the spirit of God dwell within me? Can there be harmony between science, religion and philosophy? Is evolution true or not? Does God rule in the affairs of men? Is the Bible all inspired, infallible, true? Is there a devil?

I read the Bible from cover to cover as a teenager. Although the first time I read it I did not understand very much. However, the words of Jesus sounded a chord of truth in my soul. For many years thereafter, whenever I needed spiritual inspiration, I would read only the red print in my Bible (the words of Jesus). I have read the Bible from cover to cover many times, gaining a little more understanding with each reading.

In 1975 while perusing the books in a local bookstore I discovered “The Urantia Book”. It contained a section of 774 pages about Jesus entitled, “Part IV, The Life and Teachings of Jesus, the story of the Son of God and the Son of Man.”

Once I got home I could not put the book down. I completed my first reading in fifty-six days (All 2097 pages). I knew the part about Jesus was true, but what about the rest of the book? I started over from the beginning and after reading it a second time I still had questions. I shared parts of it with my then-wife, a Jehovah’s Witness. She declared that it was the work of the devil. I read it again a third time just to see if she was right. She was not. I have now read or listened to “The Urantia Book” 18 times from cover to cover. I know in my heart and soul that “The Urantia Book” is what it says it is, the fifth epochal revelation of truth to our world. “The Urantia Book” did answer all of the above questions, plus many other questions.

I believe in the gospel of Jesus, The Fatherhood of God, the Brotherhood of Man and doing God’s Will. I am a child of God. We are all Spiritual Brothers and Sisters. God indwells each of us. The Will of God is to seek truth, beauty and goodness and living it in your life. As a young man I believed that the more I came to know Jesus the more I would come to know God. After reading “The Urantia Book” I came to understand that the more you love and seek God the more you would know God. A few years ago I had a self revelation that the more I know and love my Spiritual Brothers and Sisters the more I would know God. Each of us is a direct creation of our Spiritual Father and therefore a unique representation of God. Chris, you are my Spiritual Brother, I love you and appreciate all the work you do and the education I have received from you. God bless you.

Gareth, may I offer that religion is a man made set of controls to enslave man’s mind, but Faith and Belief of God, whichever God you follow, are personal to each individual and will reveal a journey for life.

  • Mustafa Cohen

The worst thing about religions is that they removed the respect of death.

They replaced it with the idea that we have infinite time. That whatever we want to do, we don’t need to: we’ll magically receive all we crave elsewhere, elsewhen.

As we have no sense of irrevocable end, we delay everything that matters till there is no more time. This is possible because we are taught by religions to ignore death, to skip over the event of death and proceed to dream about the rosy eternity of afterlife.

This trick is the Hiroshima and Dresden of human spirit.

Have you watched life review? The movie we are shown as the first stage of dying? The realization that you will never be able to do ANYTHING, to try again, to fix all the screwups you created is pure hell. There is no second chance.

This life is for real, it’s not a rehearsal. Whatever we do is registered as done, and there are no retries. Whatever we don’t do, is never done and will never be done.

The role of religions is to distract people from the fact that death is final. Instead, they tell us we have time.

No, we don’t. This understanding would make a lot of people focused, fluid, and oblivious of worthless daily crap to the point where the paradigm just ceases to be.

That is a great insight about how we are distracted about the finality of death and that we get one shot at this.

This is necessary, I believe for the elite to get the individual to willingly sacrifice their lives here on earth giving them an eternal carrot to chase after when all of their earthly carrots fail the test of time.

Having just joined a few months ago I finally got to this episode. Great work here and I would like to see more of this type of thing. I have been thinking that people will not awaken from thier mental slavery unless there is some type of spiritual awakening.

Silver and gold are the economic solution but without the higher level of consciousness needed to want to free ourselfves from mental slavery people will just go back to their old ways.
