The heart of God is seen throughout the history of the world. He was there through the rise of the Absolutism of the Babylonians and Persians, through the rise of Logic and Reason in the Greek and Roman Empires, through the warfare and Kings of the Middle Ages, into the age of enlightenment, and especially into America. To understand America we have to view it through the full lense of history. There had been several republics, many city states, many nations, many nomadic peoples, many empires, and many nation states, but there had never been a group of people, in the history of the whole world, who recognized the Kings of Kings and founded their government on ideas of Liberty, Common Sense, and the most fair of goverment systems, a constitutional republic. Does God favor a constitutional republic? I do not know. But I do know what he loves: Justice and Righteousness, Fairness, Fair Scales, Wisdom, Courage, Sacrifice, Manliness, Honesty, and Virtue. These are the kinds of characteristics a free people must develop in themselves to maintain their freedom and their republican goverment. I believe firmly in the principle of you reap what you sow, and that there are natural truths that God has written on the hearts of men since the beginning of time.
America went onto to become the most prosperous nation in the history of the world, because they sowed a good foundation. They sowed a foundation of Liberty, a Free Market, and Limited Goverment. It was only natural that we would elevate ourselves over all of the nations of the world. Liberty and a Free Market provide the context in which a free people can educate themselves, develop their own land and industry, elevate those around them, and prosper economically. It is the basis for all production, science, and the general emancipation of the minds of men.
But God was trying to do something more! But we missed the big picture of what God was trying to do. I believe God wanted to set America apart as an example of what a free people, full of wisdom, virtue, learning, and liberty would be able to accomplish. I believe America missed its full greatness. By not allowing blacks to grow and prosper alongside of us, we cut ourselves off from the bigger blessings God was waiting to give us. I believe he wanted to show the world what mankind could become if they embraced the the truths he had laid out since the beginning of time. The King of Kings granted us our rights. Who were we to take them away from other men and women? We prospered under the principals God had long ago established even though we choose not to abolish slavery when we laid the foundation for our government. How much more would God have blessed us had we done so?
“The sacred rights of mankind are not to be rummaged for among old parchments or musty records. They are written, as with a sunbeam, in the whole volume of human history, by the hand of Divinity itself, and can never be erased or obscured by mortal power.”
“We cannot but acknowledge that God hath graciously patronized our cause and taken us under his special care, as he did his ancient covenant people.”
Samuel Langdon, The Republic Of The Israelites
The Kings of Kings wanted to establish something in America that would have altered the entire course of human history. And he did, but it was not quite what it was meant to be.
