The Alpha Strategy by John Pugsley

What a great conference yesterday!  Thanks, Chris, for setting it up.  It was amazing to be in a room with such awesome people.  It was such a privilege to give and receive great ideas with each other.  Looking forward to the next conference and beyond :)

I mentioned a book that was perspective-changing for me yesterday.  It is a free download (pdf).  It is The Alpha Strategy by John Pugsley.

You can download it here: http://www.biorationalinstitute.com/zcontent/alpha_strategy.pdf  (It will open in a new window when you click on it). I discovered the book from Jim Rawles of www.survivalblog.com and Patriots: A Novel of Survival in the Coming Collapse (also a perspective-changing book).

What are your most recommended books — the books that rocked your world?

The most important book I’ve read in the last 20 years that is not my Bible is “The Black Swan” by Nassim Taleb. He completely torpedoes the media labeling of “100 year events,” and shows us the world is changed by the outliers, the unexpected events. What happened in 2007-2008 was not a Black Swan, it was a self inflicted gunshot wound. What will happen in 1-5 years will be an outlier—we know it will be bad, but what occurrences or combinations are unknown.

I’m looking forward to reading Alpha Strategy. Heard good things about it. Thanks for its inclusion.

  • I think that the Alpha Strategy and The Creature from Jekyll Island should be required reading for anyone above the age of 12. It is incredible how easy it is to understand the con if you actually take the time to understand it. I give both as gifts to my adults friends along with an American Silver Eagle. Best way to wake people up!

A third book, one that I have not been able to find but read excerpts from is “Money, the Greatest Hoax on earth” by Merrill Jenkins Sr. Well worht the read based on the excerpts I have found.

    Hi Crunchy,

    Thanks for the link!
I would have to say Crash Course is near the top of my list. The video’s were my big eye opener. I just purchased 2 copies of the book for my family for Christmas… has any one read the actual book yet?

The other book is The Big Short… It is very specifically related to the CDS market but it really lets you see how the big investors are thinking about things.

Crunchy I noted in this version that the appendix is missing, with items and their estimated shelf lives. For that reason in the past I had gotten the hard copy. I can share the appendix by typing it up if that is of interest.

    Such as:
    Beans dried
    Lima – 10 years
    Pinto – 10 years
    Red – 10 years

    Corn starch 5 – 10 years
    Gelatin 3 years
    Honey – Indefinite
    Jams – Indefinite

    and the like.

Yes, if you could type the Appendix as a reply to this post, that would be awesome! You would be a hero. I can’t find it posted anywhere in the internet. Thanks in advance!
